Artist Spotlight: Jane B
After a string of single EP’s, South Korean R&B songstress Jane B comes back with her latest project titled BODY. With her light and sultry voice, Jane B delivers one of this year's top KRNB EP’s. If you have been searching for an R&B work that is soft and sensual like the music of Crush and Alicia Keys, Jane B is your girl.
BODY
A collection of three songs, BODY starts with the title track and the EP’s namesake. More uptempo than expected, the song features plucky strings and percussion that take you back to the R&B of the early 2000s. I could see someone like Ciara or Ashanti performing this song. Jane B shows off understated confidence in this romantic song.
FANTASY
Then, fantasy continues the romantic theme of the EP. Flowing melodies over the snappy percussion instantly create an ethereal vibe. Jane’s voice is clear and light as she seamlessly flows between Korean and English. All of the elements cohesively blend to create the tone intended. Regardless of the possibility of language barrier, listeners can enjoy and appreciate the experience of the song.
WATERFALL
The single album comes to a close with the most upbeat track out of them all titled Waterfall. The guitar melody with snappy percussion produces more of an afrobeat-inspired single. Confident verses with a catchy chorus make this the breakout song of the album. This, could easily be something you hear on the radio or in a club.
Concluding Thoughts
Like with previous releases by Jane B, she can sing and write about a wide range of romantic experiences. From beginnings to endings, she illustrates what those in love experience without seeming repetitive or sounding too much like her counterparts.
I appreciate how the songs are curated for a cohesive listening experience. The only “con” with the project is that it is just too short, clocking in with a total listening time under nine minutes. However, the overall record will be on repeat until Jane B's next release.
