Artist Spotlight:CAMO

Bursting on the scene in 2020 with My Life Is Wet, 502 Artist CAMO proved she was not blending in among a sea of new faces in Urban Korean music. The song features KHH rookie JMIN, who'd later sign with H1GHR music in 2021.

The video currently sits at about twelve million views.

My Life is Wet is, by all definitions, a summer song. Released as quarantine had been lifting globally, the lighthearted tone separated it from darker and more politically driven tracks at the time. The thumping bass accompanied by ringing mallets emphasizes the amusing spirit of the song.

But if I were to say the beat was what carried the song, you'd know it isn't the case. CAMO (successfully) delivers as an individual artist but also has a more western influence that translates well with international audiences. CAMO, who had previously gone by Cashy Camo, gained attention for her confident lyrics and style. Her music delivers especially for those who are confident in their femininity. She often explores themes of relationships and finding love more brazenly in comparison to her Korean counterparts.

CAMO's branding has been some of the best I have seen from a South Korean artist. Her style has elements of Y2K streetwear. CAMO often wears crop tops and baggie jeans with exposed underwear. The fashion set her apart in her feature on Dingo Freestyle. Although it has been a popular style in the West, it is still not as common to dress more risque in the East.

With her catchy lyrics, distinct look, and a growing number of hits, CAMO is rising to the top. I have had her FRAGILE EP on replay since it came out and cannot wait for her next release. As CAMO continues to break into the music industry she proves that despite her name, she was made to stand out.

That's why she is this month's Artist Spotlight.
